Retainers
Clear Plastic Retainers
- Retainers are used to maintain the alignment of your teeth
- Wear your retainer every night, until the doctor instructs otherwise
- Clean your retainer thoroughly once a day with a toothbrush. Only use warm water. Brushing the retainer removes the plaque, and eliminates the odors.
- When retainers are not in your mouth they should ALWAYS be in a retainer case. Pets love to chew them!
- Your retainer is breakable, so treat them with care. If your retainer is lost or broken please call our office immediately.
- Always bring your retainer to your appointments.
- Retainer replacement is expensive…..with proper care they will last longer!
- Keep your retainer away from hot water, hot car dashboards, pockets, the washing machine, and napkins.
- If your retainer is not worn, your teeth will move!
Hawley Retainers
- Retainers are used to maintain the alignment of your teeth.

- Initially, you may find it difficult to speak. Practice speaking, reading, or singing out loud to get used to them faster.

Lower Lingual Wire
- Floss the retainer area daily to keep it clean
- If the wire becomes loose on one side, call our office immediately to have it repaired.
- If both sides of the wire become unglued, keep the wire. Do not throw it away! This wire will be re-glued to your teeth.
- The lower lingual wire should be left in place long-term to ensure your lower teeth will maintain their position.
