Meet the Orthodontists

Dr. Guenthner

Dr. Guenther

Dr. Guenthner grew up in Dodge Center, a small town 20 miles west of Rochester.  After high school he was awarded a National Merit Scholarship to attend Texas Christian University (TCU) in Forth Worth, Texas where he earned a BA degree.

He attended Dental School at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas where he graduated first in his class.  He returned to Rochester to the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine where he completed a three-year orthodontic specialty residency and earned a Master of Science in Dentistry degree.  He accepted a position at Mayo and spent 15 years on the staff of Mayo Clinic where he practiced and helped train residents in Orthodontics and other dental specialties.  It was at Mayo where Drs. Guenthner Larson first met and worked together.

Later Drs. Guenthner and Larson moved to their current location in the Atrium Professional Building and are proud and happy to provide the highest quality orthodontic treatment in the most efficient and economical manner possible.  It is a profound pleasure to help people achieve their orthodontic goals in the shortest possible time.  Orthodontics can really be a life-altering experience; a smile can really change a life.

Dr. Guenthner has many passions in life beyond his orthodontic practice.  He enjoys spending time with his wife Becky and their dachshund, Myrtle.  He also really enjoys staying physically fit by riding his bicycle, logging over 7,000 miles per year on this bike!  He also has played guitar for many years and plays with a classic rock group call "2nd Opinion".  You may see him occasionally playing at local venues such as Chester's and Whistle Bnikies.  Keep your eyes open!  Dr. Guenthner also has a passion for everything Italian and has taught himself to speak Italian, which helps when he is lucky enough to travel to Italy.

Dr. Larson

Dr. Larson

Dr. Brent Larson is a native of Minnesota having been raised in New Brighton.  He received a degree in Chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.  He attended the University of Minnesota for dental school and graduated at the top of his class in 1981.  Following dental school, Dr. Larson spent 9 years in the U.S. Air Force, and during this time completed a General Practice Residency, spent 3 years in general practice, received his specialty training in orthodontics and practiced as an orthodontist.  He was stationed in Texas, upstate New York, North Carolina and Madrid, Spain.  Dr. Larson's orthodontic training was completed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received both a certificate and a Master's degree in Orthodontics.

Following the completion of his military commitment, Dr. Larson joined the staff at the Mayo Clinic and there he first practiced with Dr. Guenthner.  During his time at Mayo he was involved in teaching and served as Graduate Program Director in Orthodontics, a position held until 1996.  In 1996 Drs. Guenthner and Larson started their practice in its current location.

In the fall of 2004, Dr. Larson was recruited by the University of Minnesota to return to teaching and his current position as Chair and Program Director of the Division of Orthodontics.  With the support of Dr. Guenthner and the Rochester office staff, Dr. Larson has maintained a one day per week practice in Rochester while serving in his academic capacity at the University.

Dr. Larson has served as the President of the Minnesota Association or Orthodontists, the President of the Midwestern Soceity of Orthodontists, and currently serves as a Trustee to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).  Dr. Larson will serve as AAO President for 2018-2019.

Dr. Larson has been married to his wife Cindy since 1977 and they have 3 boys; Matt, Andy and Chad.  Matt is currently completing his orthodontic residency at the University of North Carolina, Andy works as an electrical engineer for Nav Air in Maryland and Chad is a dental student at the University of Minnesota.  In his free time Dr. Larson enjoys golf and tennis, woodworking and spending time at the family cabin in northern Minnesota.

Dr. Kim-Weroha

Dr. Larson

Dr. Nellie Kim-Weroha received her Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from the University of Kansas.  While attending college, she worked as a dental assistant for Orthodontic and Periodontic practices.

She attended dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry and graduated with top honors.  Following dental school, she did a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at UMKC, where she refined her training on full-mouth reconstruction, implant restoration and cosmetic dentistry.  Afterwards, Dr. Kim received her specialty training in orthodontics and earned a Master's in Oral Biology degree at UMKC.  Her Master's research was focused on bone regulation and osteoporosis, which gave her the opportunity to speak at the national bone research meeting in Montreal, Canada and was awarded Distinguished Master's Thesis from the university.

Following her orthodontic training, she moved to Rochester for her husband's training at the Mayo Clinic and has grown to love the city.  She joined the practicesof Drs. Guenthner, Larson and Hill, where she took over Dr. Arnie Hill's patients when he retired.  She feels fortunate to be working with a great team of high quality doctors and motivated staff.  Dr. Kim truly enjoys going to work.  The best part about her job is improving the smiles of her patients and giving them the confidence to achieve their goals, which is what her orthodontist did for her.  In her free time, Dr. Kim enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends and stays busy with her twin boys, Jaeden and Kobi, and Eby, their pug.
