There are a variety of uses for laser in the field of dentistry. Lasers can be used for cavity removal and teeth whitening. Most commonly in orthodontics we use it for gum reshaping or exposure of an impacted tooth.

Even if a person has teeth that are straight and healthy, the beauty of their smile may be diminished by gums that extend too far, making teeth look too small. A laser can be used to reshape this tissue and make the teeth look esthetically pleasing.
A benefit of using a laser to expose an impacted tooth is that we are able to bond a bracket to this tooth a lot earlier rather than waiting for it to slowly erupt on its own.
Dental lasers emit light that delivers quick pulses of heat energy to the treatment area. Various wavelengths are used depending on the type of tissue being treated. Lasers cauterize while they cut, which means less bleeding and a dramatically reduced chance of infection for patients.
